Sorry You Can’t Rock Out With Us On Our Birthday

Hi, I’m Barb Abney from 89.3… The Current. Thanks to wonderful support from listeners like you our 7th Birthday Party sold out in a matter of hours. Because of the extreme level of interest in our Birthday Party we’re happy to announce that tickets to next year’s birthday party will be going on sale RIGHT NOW.

Join us in 2013 as we celebrate our 8th birthday like only 89.3… The Current knows how. Booking isn’t completed yet but we’ll be featuring a great line up of your favorite local musicians, from nationally popular hip-hop stars to the great indie innovators of 2012. You can be sure we’ll have a bluegrass-inspired act, bands that haven’t even been formed yet and of course a couple of old retreads from the 80s and 90s to keep the Gen Xer crowd happy. Am I talking about Semisonic? Maybe…

That’s what I love about what we do here at 89.3… The Current – our ability to bring artists from all across the spectrum into your lives.  So go head and log on to buy your tickets for our 8th Birthday right… oh my. We here at 89.3… The Current want to thank you so much for your support, our 2013 Birthday Party tickets have sold out in 45 seconds! Thank you, thank you. How amazing.

Here at 89.3… The Current we like to think that we’ve always been there at the forefront of Minnesota’s musical innovators, sharing new experiences with you, the listener. That’s why we’re excited to announce that today we’ll begin giving away tickets to our 25th birthday party in 2030 because thanks to the yet-to-be-discovered miracle of time travel it’s already sold out.

That’s right, you would have been able to help say happy 25th birthday to 89.3… The Current with artists that haven’t learned to play instruments yet and maybe a few that were just born this year! You might have been there for a Rhymesayers reunion that will be ten years in the making, and I don’t want to spoil anything but don’t be surprised if you miss Bon Iver taking time off from his international tour to jam with a 72 year-old Prince.

I can imagine how disappointed you are that you couldn’t get your hands on tickets eighteen years from now but don’t you worry. When we move the show to the new Cargill Dome in 2020 it means thousands more people can attend and not all of them will survive their trip through the time stream. You never know – be sure to keep listening over the next decade and we’ll be releasing tickets as fast as we can.

I wanted to take this moment to thank you, the listener, because we couldn’t do this without you. Without your indiscriminate, insatiable need to support local music of all kinds, sight unseen, we wouldn’t be able to hold these inexplicably popular events like our Birthday Party or Rock the Garden. I mean, who would have predicted that so many people would turn out to stand in the rain and see Booker T? The fact that half of you had never heard a Booker T song before meant nothing to you, and that’s what makes you great. So thanks again, everyone. Wherever you listen, whenever you listen, thanks for supporting 89.3…
