Winter

Winter

Author Thomas C. Wolfe once wrote, “you can’t go home again”. But Freaky Deeky proved that literary bigwig wrong when we kicked off 2012 by going back to our roots and triumphantly returning to the mothership at MTN Studios!

Well, technically we returned two weeks ago with our 5-and-a-half star “Fractions” episode, but after shaking off the MTN ring rust and reintegrating with Studio A, it seemed like we never left all those months ago, which is good, ’cause we had a formidable challenge in the form of Old Man Winter! Sure, Minneapolis’ winter so far hasn’t been the beast we’ve expected, much to the chagrin of Old Man Winter, who went off on a quick rant against Canadian Bacon and his Northern brethren for having a better snowy season than Minnesota. Tensions rose when hillbilly dance sensation Billy Hill challenged O.M.W. to a dance-off, with the potential length of a Minnesota winter at stake. After some impressive hoofin’ from both contestants, judge and Dear Leader Hamil Griffin-Cassidy ruled in favor of Billy, ending Winter’s flaccid reign once and for all.

But there was much more to freak about! Our friend and Freak-in-arms Dan Hoffstrom returned after a five-month sabbatical, and there were two– yes, TWO– birthdays to celebrate: one was for superstar caller Ashley Sierra, who graced our phone lines with her presence, and another for soon-to-be birthday girl and FD Artist-in-Chief Carolyn Kopecky, who got a present AND a special birthday song from our other superstar caller Biker Dad (who, by the by, scored a plum plug for Freaky Deeky from none other than AWA wrestling legend and hometown hero Greg Gagne, which you can scope out here).

We had OG musician Micah Buckley-Farlee lay down the night’s bangin’ soundtrack, and by the end, we shed our heavy winter clothes just in time for Naked Time. Did you feel the temperature rising? We sure did! Well, that and the slightly disturbing massage train formed by Bacon, Hoffstrom, and Japeworm. But do you expect anything less from us?

Be sure to check our official Freaky Deeky website in the next couple days to download this episode when it’s available (in the meantime, download the “Fractions” episode, you silly goose). Head over to our Freaky Deeky fan page on Facebook as well! We’re THIS close to 700 fans, so spread the word!

ALSO: if you’re in Minneapolis and enjoy some damn good artwork, exhibit gallery Co-Exhibitions is running the Working Title art collaboration project, featuring works by FD regulars Wes Winship, Sara Syverhus, and our own special effects gurus from Playatta. The exhibit runs through February 17th, and you can still catch the last two opening receptions on the nights of February 3rd and 10th. Check it out, y’all!

We’ll be back on the MTN airwaves and our live streaming site in two weeks (February 12, to be exact). Until then, stay sexy and keep cool, babies!
