The Red Stag Supper Club with DJ Wes Winship

We’re happy to announce that the first ever Alcohol By Volume event will be held at The Red Stag Supper Club on Thursday, February 9th. Music begins at 10:30 and the contest begins with the secret ingredient being unveiled at 11:00. More venue details such as directions, happy hour specials and contact information can be found here at the event page on Facebook.

DJ Wes Winship of Triple Double

We’re also fired up to welcome Wes Winship as the musical guest for our inaugural event. Wes is the DJ for Triple Double every Tuesday at the Triple Rock as well as the owner/operator of Burlesque of North America design and screen-printing shop. I asked Wes a little bit about himself and his drinking, eating and musical habits.

Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota via Montpelier, Vermont

Favorite Music: The Melvins have stayed high on my list for a long time. Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Astrud Gilberto. Ennio Morricone. I also just like bass in general, 100 hz and below.

Favorite Food: Indian food, all varieties of mac & cheese and burgers, Texas BBQ and a good steak

Favorite Drink: Premium and an Irish Speed (Baileys and Jameson, shaken)

What places around town to you go for a good cocktail and where do you go just for a beer and a shot of whiskey? Most of my beer and shot drinking coincides with good music and/or good food. First Avenue and Triple Rock take the cake in the music department. I have a burger and a beer at Triple Rock almost every week. Tic Tac and Megatron hold it down at both places. For fancy cocktails, I’m sad to say that Gina Kent, who was at Town Talk until they closed, has recently moved to LA. She whipped up some tasty concoctions. I’d go wherever she’s working, it’s gonna be good.

Do you have a favorite bartender around town?  In the same category [with Gina] is Birk Gruden who is still with us in the Twin Cities at Bradstreet Crafthouse. I think he’s available for special cocktail catering too.

Wes lights up Triple Double every Tuesday at Triple Rock. It’s free, it’s 2-4-1s on drinks, it’s always a good time. Be on the look out for where-ever Bomp!, his big ass monthly-ish dance party pops up next.

If you want quality screen-printing and design, his company Burlesque is one of the best in town at bringing you just that and more. Holler at: info@burlesquedesign.com or head over to their website.

Stay tuned to this space next week for the unveiling of the bartenders who will be facing off against each other in our first battle of booze!
