Project: A Decade of Music Photos Book
Goal: $1,650
Due date: Wednesday, February 22
Why it’s good: Adam Bubolz knows concert photography. As the title of his Kickstarter project proclaims, the Reviler co-founder has been snapping pictures of bands in action for 10 years, and now shoots up to 80 shows a year, he says. A glance at Bubolz’s Flickr account confirms the depth and variety of his work, including stills of such bands as Deerhoof, Sleeping in the Aviary, and STNNNG. The full-color hardcover book he plans to assemble will package his best shots in style, celebrating not only his photos but also a decade of local and indie music.
Rewards: Givers to the campaign can earn prints of photos from the book, which they’ll be able to choose once Bubolz narrows down the selection. A donation of $10 snags back-issues of his self-published zine.
Why Kickstarter: Bubolz decided to use Kickstarter not only to raise money for the project, but to gauge interest in it. Publicity is essential to a successful campaign, he says: “Advertise as much as you can because you never know who missed it the previous time. It’s a short time to raise a good amount of money, so it’s important to make sure your project is out there and people know it exists.”
Last word: Falling short of his goal, if that happens, won’t deter Bubolz: “I plan to focus on making the next years of photos memorable enough that more people will think it’s worth it next time I reach a milestone I want to commemorate.”
